 Profile

Michael Buchanan, the eldest son of the former Queensland and Australia coach John, had his first run with the Bulls in the Twenty20 competition three years ago and completed a nine-match FR Cup campaign the following season. His highest score of 40 not out off 38 balls came on debut against New South Wales, but he was unable to make regular contributions and was cut from the squad in the winter of 2008, a year after winning a full deal. A compact batsman who played rugby union at under-19 state level, he also bowls medium pace and has opened the bowling for his club side University. Fortunately for Buchanan, help from his father is never far away. "He's been a very big influence," Michael said, "not just for cricket, but rugby as well."
