Consistent form with the bat for grade club St George during recent years
has seen Brett van Deinsen emerge as a contender for a long-term role at the
top of the New South Wales order. Tall and strongly built, the right hander
made his first-class debut in the 1999-2000 season, and quickly showcased
the powerful shotmaking through the off side; the good judgement; and the
intense concentration, that are the features of his game. A junior player of
some note, van Deinsen has been earmarked for greater things from early in
his career, albeit that he did not take up an offer to be a part of the
Australian Cricket Academy's 1998 intake, instead returning home after less
than a week on account of feeling homesick. While he has yet to surpass a
score of 29 at either first-class or domestic one-day level, his technique
and attitude promise much for the future. His performances for the state's
second eleven team in ACB Cup competition also continue to be impressive.
