Khawaja and Henriques come good in easy win

Contrasting half-centuries from Usman Khawaja and Moises Henriques guided the Australian Institute of Sports to a comfortable five-wicket win over the Bangladeshis in their third warm-up match at the Gardens Oval in Darwin. With the victory, Australia avenged their three-wicket loss on Wednesday after having won the first encounter.

Chasing 271, Australia were given a solid platform by Khawaja and Liam Davis (25) as they put on 79 runs for the first wicket. Davis was trapped by the legspin of Alok Kapali for a 58-ball 25, after which Henriques' arrival gave the innings some much-needed momentum. Henriques took only 70 balls for his 82, striking 11 fours and a six in the process, and more importantly, added 127 runs for the second wicket with Khawaja, who employed a steady approach in his 94. Bangladesh had a brief opening when Henriques and Khawaja were dismissed within four runs of each other, with Khawaja falling lbw to Abdur Razzak. Michael Hill, with an unbeaten 28, ensured that Australia did not have to face too many hurdles at the end of their chase.

Bangladesh made a poor start after being sent in, losing their openers with just five runs on the board. Kapali (38) and Mohammad Ashraful (21) did not carry on after making starts as Bangladesh fell to 66 for 4. Shakib Al Hasan, back in the squad after missing the Kitply Cup and the Asia Cup on account of school exams, put the tourists back on track with a quick-fire 67 off just 55 balls. He was given good support by Raqibul Hassan, who played second fiddle in a 99-run fifth-wicket stand. Raqibul stayed on till the end, consuming 92 balls for his 51. Dhiman Ghosh and Mahmuddulah made aggressive 20s, while the No. 10 Ferhad Reza blasted an unbeaten 22 off 14 to boost Bangladesh's total.
