The Bangladesh board (BCB) is optimistic that the team's five-wicket win over India in the World Cup will pave the way for their first tour to India in the near future. India is the only Test-playing nation that is yet to host Bangladesh for a full-fledged tour.
"This victory has brightened our chances for a full-fledged tour of India in the near future," Mahmudur Rahman, the BCB chief executive officer, told AFP. "Certainly our case has been strengthened with this win and India will now look at it with importance."
Bangladesh bowled out India for 191 and chased the target with nine balls to spare in Trinidad.
India first toured Bangladesh in 2000-01 soon after Bangladesh received Test status. The two sides played a Test series for a second time when India visited in 2004-05. India are scheduled for a third visit in May this year for two Tests and three one-day games.
Under the six-year Future Tour Program announced by the ICC each Test playing nation is obligated to play a home-away Test series against all other Test nations.
Rahman said that India had not announced any dates to host Bangladesh, though officials had discussed the issue recently in South Africa.
