Fast bowler Brad Williams has been omitted from the Western Australia squad for the 2006-07 season, as the state announced its list of contracted players.
Williams, who represented Australia in four Tests and 25 ODIs, was suspended last November for the rest of the season for reportedly refusing to play in an ING Cup match against Tasmania.
Shawn Gillies, a Jamaican-born fast bowler and and opener Clint Heron, who both debuted last season, were offered full contracts while Aaron Heal and Andrew James , who held rookie contracts, received upgrades. A notable inclusion was fast bowler Tim MacDonald who captured 70 wickets at an average of 11.63 in the WACA District League.
Wayne Clark, the Warriors coach, was confident that the new players have the ability graduate to the big league and give the team the right depth.
"We're pretty confident that the core of our group has what it takes to win silverware in the domestic competitions and keeping them all in Warriors colours was our aim," Clark said. "To be able to then offer contracts to guys that have consistently performed at club level was important in adding depth to the squad and shows the faith that we have in the WACA District League."
Theo Doropoulos, Josh Mangan, the former Victoria legspinner, and Luke Pomersbach were the three new players added to the rookie contracts list.
Full contracts David Bandy, Brett Dorey, Ben Edmondson, Sean Ervine, Shawn Gillies, Aaron Heal, Clint Heron, Mathew Inness, Andrew James, Tim MacDonald, Steve Magoffin, Shaun Marsh, Scott Meuleman, Marcus North, Chris Rogers, Luke Ronchi, Adam Voges, Darren Wates and Peter Worthington.
Rookie Contracts Aaron Crawford, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Liam Davis, Theo Doropoulos, Craig King, Josh Mangan and Luke Pomersbach.
