Azhar Mahmood stars in Habib Bank's win

Discarded Pakistan allrounder Azhar Mahmood excelled with a five-wicket haul in Habib Bank's thumping victory by an innings and 20 runs over ZTBL in their four-day Quadrangular Stage match of the Patron's Trophy on Saturday at the UBL Sports Complex.

Azhar, who took two wickets in the first innings, took 5 for 35 in the second to give HBL the win on the second day of the four-day tie. ZTBL, who were bundled out for only 64 in their first innings, were restricted to 170 in 47.1 overs in their second innings after Habib Bank posted 254 in their first. Trailing by 190 runs, Imran Sabir (62) was the only batsman to offer resistance along with Inamul Haq (47) as ZTBL's batsmen fell in quick time.

Besides Azhar's heroics, Fahad Masood and Kamran Hussain grabbed two wickets apiece. Earlier, HBL gained a 190-run lead when they managed 254 runs off 69.1 overs in their first innings. Riffatullah was the top scorer with 88 while Azhar Mahmood made a defiant 47. Fast bowler Muhammad Khalil claimed another five-wicket haul for ZTBL.

Kashif Raza took 4 for 12 in a fiery six-over spell to put WAPDA in a winning position on the second day of their at the NBP Sports Complex Ground on Saturday. KRL, who conceded 133-run first-innings lead to WAPDA, were in deep trouble at 19 for 4 in the second. KRL are still 115 runs behind with six wickets in hand. WAPDA were all out for 260 in their first outing with Asim Masood Butt and Zulqarnain Haider hitting half centuries. Asim hit six fours in his 72 and Zulqarnain made 52.
