The Sri Lanka A team for next month's series against Bangladesh A will be named after the national team returns from the tour of India. Chandika Hathurusingha, the coach of the A team, said the inputs of Mahela Jayawardene and Tom Moody will also be taken before naming around 18-20 players. He also indicated that the selectors were looking to pick a squad not only for the Bangladesh series but also for the rest of the year.
"The presence of Mahela and Tom is important because we need to know what plans they have for the national side and how the A team can contribute towards that," said Hathurusingha. "At the moment we have immediate replacements as well as long-term replacements. We are also looking at the performances of players in the Premier tournament, especially the Super League which will conclude this weekend. We intend giving these players a fair chance at selection."
Following the Bangladesh series from March 19 to April 4, Sri Lanka A will make a nine-match tour of England beginning July where they are scheduled to play one four-day match, four three-day matches and four one-day matches against English county teams. A fixture against India, who will be touring England next summer, is also being considered. Australia A are due to tour Sri Lanka in October.
