Middlesex 176 and 381 beat Leicestershire 190 and 279 (Allenby 46, Nixon 37) by 38 runs Middlesex beat Leicestershire by 38 runs at Southgate, keeping their chances of pipping Nottinghamshire to the second Championship Division Two promotion place just about alive. They will need to take maximum points from their remaining game next week, while Nottinghamshire will need only one point from their match at champions Somerset. Leicestershire resumed on 178 for 6, needing 140 runs with four wickets remaining, and Claude Henderson and David Masters added 62 for the seventh wicket to further boost their chances. Jamie Dalrymple then struck twice to remove them both, and although Jerome Taylor and Ryan Cummins chipped away at the target, they were left with too much to do.
