Jason Gillespie, who lost his place in the Australian side during a wretched Ashes series, will return to England in 2006 after signing for Yorkshire. Although Gillespie was widely written off after taking 3 for 300 in the first three Tests of the summer, he has bounced back with a good start to the domestic season with South Australia.
"At the start of last summer he was rated as one of the four best quicks in the world," David Byas, the county's director of cricket, said. "He's a quality bowler who will give us an enormous boost and with Deon Kruis [the South African seamer] could form a lethal combination. It was clear last season what areas needed to be strengthened and Jason has impressed me as the right man in my talks with him."
Aside from his on-field problems, Gillespie also launched an attack on English supporters last August. "You can get shirty about it but it is not going to achieve a hell of a lot," he admitted. "I have got my way of ignoring what is going on."
