Garaway named as England team analyst

Mark Garaway, Somerset's first-team coach, has been appointed by the England & Wales Cricket Board as Tim Boon's replacement as the national team analyst. Garaway, 32, is a former Hampshire player with an ECB Level 4 coaching award, and will join up with the squad at Loughborough next Tuesday, before flying out to India with the Test squad on Sunday week.

Announcing his appointment, the ECB's director of cricket, John Carr, said: "We are delighted that Mark has agreed to join the England Management Team. He was an outstanding candidate for the job and has all the experience and qualities we were looking for to fill the role. It is also a real bonus that Mark is available to undertake the India tour and we are most grateful to Somerset CCC in this regard."

England have been seeking a new man for the role since Boon announced during the Pakistan tour that he was lining up a new appointment as Leicestershire's head coach. Garaway, Hampshire's reserve wicketkeeper from 1996 to 1999, took over as Somerset's first-team coach last season, after leading the reserves to the second XI championship in 2004.

"I have really enjoyed my time at Somerset and I want to thank all the players, staff and supporters," said Garaway. "However, the England job has provided me with a great opportunity to experience cricket at the top level and I am greatly looking forward to it."
