Former Surrey coach Alan Butcher is one of eight applicants for the vacancy as Lancashire's coach, according to the Bolton News.
Butcher, who was dismissed by Surrey at the end of the 2008 season, told the newspaper: "I have applied, and I have had confirmation from Lancashire that my application has been received."
Lancashire's current assistant coach Gary Yates is another who is expected to apply. "I'll be sending in an application," he said. "I've obviously worked with the players having been in charge of the second team, and know the set-up and surroundings. If I got the job I would be able to continue the good work we have been doing here over the past few years, and that is something I am very interested in doing."
Other applicants are expected to include a number of former Lancashire players such as John Abrahams, Warren Hegg, Peter Martin and Phil Defreitas.
