Netherlands v Bermuda, Amstelveen, 3rd day Sorry Bermuda slump to innings defeat August 15, 2007
Netherlands 410 beat Bermuda 183 and 183 (Leverock 52) by an innings and 44 runs Netherlands took a little over a session to polish off Bermuda and ease to an innings-and-44-run win on the third day of the Intercontinental Cup match at Amstelveen. The result takes Netherlands to the top of the table, but it is hard to see where Bermuda, who still face two ODIs at the weekend and another Cup match against Ireland next week, go from here. Bermuda's only hope is that they will be boosted for the Irish leg of their European nightmare by some of the Under-19 squad who are currently in Canada. But a squad weakened by retirements and unavailability were outbowled and outbatted throughout by Netherlands. Resuming on 51 for 3, still 176 shy of making Netherlands bat again. James Celestine, who was one of the few successes in Denmark last week, was run out in the third over and that set the tone for the day. Irving Romaine, the captain, who had spared Bermuda from humiliation in the first innings, stode to the middle, clearly in no mood to mess about, hammering four fours in eight balls before edging to the wicketkeeper. In different circumstances he might have dug in and battled, but he found no support in the first innings and there was no reason for him to suspect the second would be any different. As it was, the tail dig wag, Dwayne Leverock hitting some powerful straight fours in his 52, but the last three wickets fell in a clatter shortly after lunch to bring the curtain down on a woefully one-sided contest. © Cricinfo
