 Profile

For the rookie allrounder Matt Johnston, 2007-08 was a season of pleasure and pain. He was just starting to establish himself in Western Australia's FR Cup side when he was hit in the face by a wayward throw while he ran between the wickets against South Australia. Johnston needed surgery on his broken jaw and was out of action for most of the season, although when he returned late in the campaign he showed his promise and a calm 44 against Queensland was impressive. The Warriors, already flush with allrounders, upgraded him to a full contract on the back of his encouraging 2007-08. The previous season he had made his Twenty20 debut, scoring 7 in the middle order and finishing off the South Australian innings with two wickets in his only over.
