Profile
A top-order batsman who has hovered on the fringes for Tasmania over the past four seasons, Rhett Lockyear had a couple of shining moments in 2007-08. He gained exposure during a stint as a substitute fielder for Australia during the Hobart Test against Sri Lanka and made the most of his opportunity, grabbing a catch and completing two run-outs. More important for his future playing prospects was a successful Twenty20 tournament that included a destructive 64 from 27 balls against South Australia. His summer was limited to five Twenty20 outings but that gave Lockyear hope of greater batting opportunities after his career appeared to stall following a handful of unsuccessful first-class and one-day appearances a few seasons earlier.
