Symonds back for Bulls

Queensland Cricket

January 16, 2003

The XXXX Queensland Bulls have gained World Cup player Andrew Symonds for tomorrow night's ING Cup clash against the Southern Redbacks at the Gabba.

The Australian selectors' decision to give Symonds the chance of some valuable playing time after being twelfth man for the past two VB Series matches has forced a change to the Bulls line-up for the day/nighter.

Former captain Stuart Law, named in the original team yesterday, has been omitted for Symonds, who will rejoin the Australian team in Adelaide on Saturday to prepare for the match against England on Sunday.

Meanwhile pace spearhead Michael Kasprowicz is on the verge of two milestones coming into the ING and Pura Cup matches against the Southern Redbacks this week.

Kasprowicz needs three wickets in the ING match to pass Scott Prestwidge (67 wickets) as Queensland's all-time leading one-day wicket-taker and three wickets in the Pura Cup starting on Sunday to record 400 first class wickets for Queensland.

Kasprowicz has 65 one-day scalps and 397 first class dismissals for the Bulls.

Only Carl Rackemann (425 wickets) has more wickets for Queensland.

Sunday is the Pura Milk Family Day with a special holiday price of $10 for two adults and two children.

South Australia have a fitness cloud over allrounder Mark Higgs (hip), with batsman Jeff Vaughan on stand-by to replace him for tomorrow's match.

The Redbacks will have three players making their ING Cup debuts. Right-arm fas medium bowler Mark Cleary and Australian Under-19 duo Mark Cosgrove, a right-hand batsman, and Trent Kelly, a right-arm pace bowler, are the new faces.

Queensland will check the fitness of pace bowler Ashley Noffke on Saturday morning to see if he has recovered sufficiently from a fractured right index finger to take his spot in the Bulls Pura Cup line-up.
