The Indian board is not planning to seek an explantion from Sourav Ganguly over his decision to skip the last two Ranji Trophy ties of Bengal.
"We are not going to write to anyone seeking explanation. What can we do if he doesn't play," said Niranjan Shah, BCCI Secretary, reacting to reports that Kiran More, chairman of selectors, was unhappy with Ganguly's decision of not playing in Ranji matches.
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly today resumed practice and spent one and half hours at the Eden Gardens and the adjoining Pankaj Gupta Indoor Training Centre for a rigorous workout in the gym. He also had a session in the nets at the PGITC. Hordes of print and electronic mediapersons were left disappointed as Ganguly refused to speak.
Ganguly, who was dropped for the third Test against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad, was brought back into the national squad for the upcoming three-Test series in Pakistan in view of his "experience." Ganguly, after being omitted for the last Test against the Lankans, used the intervening period to airdash to Delhi from Kolkata and have a one-on-one meeting with Sharad Pawar, BCCI chief.
During this period, Bengal clashed with Karnataka in their Elite Division Group A tie at Bangalore and are now playing against Gujarat at Surat. Ganguly did not play in both these matches. More could not be contacted on the issue.
