Ryan Campbell and Nazimuddin sign for ICL

Ryan Campbell, the former Australian wicketkeeper who was an understudy to Adam Gilchrist, has signed up for the ICL and will be taking part in the unofficial Twenty20 league's second season starting on October 10, officials confirmed.

The ICL also confirmed four other signings, including Nazimuddin, the Bangladesh top-order batsman, Tahir Mughal, Shahid Yousuf and Khalid Mahmood from the Pakistan domestic circuit, and Kunal Lal, the Delhi left-arm fast bowler. Lal is also the son of Madan Lal, the former Indian medium-pacer who coaches the Delhi Jets team in the ICL. Kunal made his Delhi debut last season, during which he took 41 wickets in 13 first-class games.

"Campbell is a valuable addition and will probably play for the Ahmedabad Rockets," an ICL official said. "As for the other confirmed signings, the focus has been on youth. The three Pakistani players are upcoming talents and will add to the Lahore Badshahs team. Nazimuddin, who is a top-order batsman, will be part of our newly-unveiled Dhaka Warriors side." Nadeem Khan, the former Pakistan Test player, has been named the assistant coach of the Badshahs.

Nazimuddin came in to the Bangladesh national squad as an attacking opening batsman, and in only his second Twenty20 international, smashed 81 against Pakistan in Nairobi last September. He played seven ODIs since his debut this March, but managed only 90 runs at a disappointing 12.85. He joins 13 other Bangladesh players who recently signed up for the ICL.

Campbell, 36, played two one-day internationals for Australia in 2002 before retiring from domestic cricket during the 2005-06 season. An attacking batsman in the mould of Gilchrist, he finished his career in ninth place on the Pura Cup-Sheffield Shield list of Western Australian run-scorers with 5421, and was fourth on the wicketkeeping dismissals table with 242.

Mughal, a fast-bowling allrounder, brings the experience of 96 first-class games, during which he took 453 wickets. Yousuf, a right-handed batsman from Sialkot, was named in Pakistan's one-day during the tour of England in 2006 but never played for the country.

The ICL had previously written to the ICC requesting official recognition of the tournament and Subhash Chandra, the owner, is expected to meet ICC president David Morgan in London during the first week of October.
