Sachin Tendulkar has said that he thought Adam Gilchrist "made loose statements" in his upcoming autobiography but considered the matter closed. Gilchrist had questioned Tendulkar's evidence in the Harbhajan Singh racism case in his book True Colours.
"I was surprised. I didn't know how to react," Tendulkar told the news channel NDTV. "[What he alleged] is something that I can't even think of in my wildest dreams. I love the game so much and those remarks came from someone who doesn't know me enough. I think he made loose statements.
"So many times he [Gilchrist] mentioned that 'you and Harbhajan are not traceable to shake hands'," Tendulkar said. "I reminded him that I was the first person to shake hands after the Sydney defeat. It was a tough game which we lost and it was difficult for us."
Gilchrist later said that he did not accuse Tendulkar of lying during the racism hearing after the controversial Test. He also denied calling Tendulkar a "bad sport" after observing that it was often hard to locate him for an after-match handshake following Indian defeats. He then called Tendulkar to clarify that his comments had been taken out of context.
