All square going into the final round

Cricinfo staff

March 8, 2008

Kenya's Elite One-Day League was thrown wide open as both teams that lost last week won in the second round of the competition. That leaves all sides level on four points with all of them in with a chance of the title in next weekend's final round of matches.

Eastern Aces, the Elite Twenty20 champions, bounced back from their shock defeat by Northern Nomads to easily beat Southern Stars by five wickets with almost 20 overs to spare at Ruaraka Sports Club. Lameck Onyango, who finished with 4 for 15, did the damage, taking four early wicket to reduce the Stars to 40 for 5, although Rajesh Bhudia (52) and Hiren Varaiya (35*) helped them to 151. Nineteen-year-old Mansukh Naran played the anchor innings for the Aces, finishing with an unbeaten 39, while Steve Tikolo clubbed three sixes in his 43 to put the game beyond doubt, even though was not there at the end.

Western Chiefs avenged their defeat by Northern Nomads in the Twenty20 competition with a 44-run win at Sir Ali Muslim Club. The Chiefs got off to a good start, reaching 135 for 1 as Main (75) and Jeshani (59) put on 94 for the second wicket. Jeshani's dismissal triggered a mini collapse as five wickets fell for 25 in the final overs. In contrast, although Jimmy Kamande led the chase with 75, he was not well supported and after his run-out the Nomads were not in the hunt. Peter Ongondo came back and took three wickets at the death to finish with 4 for 31.
