Profile
Mark Pettini is a talented strokeplayer and occasional wicketkeeper. The former England Under-19 player had graduated to become an integral part of the Essex middle-order by the summer of 2006. His maiden first-class hundred came against Somerset in May 2006, proving that he is a lot more than a one-day specialist. He quickly developed into a major force in the top order and, when Ronnie Irani stood down mid-way through the 2007 season, Pettini was handed the captaincy reins. In the same month he was nominated in England's Twenty20 World Championship squad. There is a bright future ahead. Sam Collins July 2007
