January 24, 2000

Lahore, Jan 23: Fine double century by captain Asif Mujtaba (240) and a century by Shoaib Mohammad (163) resulting in their third wicket massive stand of 367 runs, helped Pakistan International Airline to declare their first innings at a formidable total of 550 for four against Lahore Division Cricket Association (LDCA) on the second day of their Quaid-i-Azam Cricket Trophy match at the Sheikhupura Stadium, according to a message received here on Sunday.

Both the century-makers and the Test discarded resumed the PIA first innings in the morning with overnight strong position of 287 for two.

By close of play, LDCA were in deep trouble as had lost six wickets cheaply for 96 in 32 overs. Captain Maqsood Raza (26) and Mohammad Haroon (12) will resume the innings on Monday morning.

For PIA, paceman Ali Gohar and international leg-spinner Nadeem Khan had taken three wickets each for 33 and 15 runs, respectively.

Asif Mujtaba who began with 107 slammed 32 boundaries to score 240. He stayed at the wicket for 410 minutes and faced 335 deliveries. Shoaib Mohammad smashed 16 boundaries and one towering six during 423 minutes stay at the crease. Asif Mujtaba and Shoaib Mohammad's third wicket collaboration lasted 353 minutes.

Sohail Jafar who scored 51 and Zahid Fazal who made 31 remained unbeaten, collecting 55 runs in their fifth wicket partnership.
