The Indian team members including Sachin Tendulkar have accepted an invitation from Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain, to visit the Shaukat Khanum cancer research hospital in Lahore on Eid day.
Imran who was the moving spirit behind the construction of the hospital in memory of his mother extended the invitation to the Indian players recently and is said to be happy with their prompt reply. An Indian team source said Imran wanted the visiting players to visit the hospital and see for themselves the work being done there for cancer patients as he believed it would help in raising a lot of funds for the running of the hospital from a big country like India.
"India is a big commercial market and there are major multinational and local corporate bodies there. Imran himself paid a recent visit to India in connection with fund raising and he believes that the visit of the Indian players would help in drawing the attention of the Indian people to the outstanding work being done at the hospital." The SKH treats a large number of patients free of cost who can't afford the expensive treatment and the funds are generated from Zakat, private donations and fund raising campaigns.
Imran himself two days back visited the National Cricket Academy to work with Pakistan pacer Mohammad Sami, the same day the Indians also went and held practice there.
