Davey Jacobs and Ryan Bailey put on 361 for the third wicket to set a new ground at Bloemfontein as they made Dolphins sweat on a pitch made for batting.

Lance Klusener gave Eagles an early scare as he took two wickets in his opening spell after they had won the toss. Bailey joined Jacobs with the score 7 for 2, and they took the game away from Dolphins. Jacobs was first to reach his hundred, from 110 balls with 19 fours. Bailey's maiden hundred followed more sedately, coming from 217 balls with 11 fours and a six. Jacobs moved onto his first double century, made from 263 balls with 31 fours and two sixes in all.

To add to the Dolphins problems, Mfuneko Ngam had to leave the field with an injury in the middle of his twelfth over.

At stumps Jacobs, 206, and Baliey, 148, were still there, and Eagles on a massive 368 for 2.

Batting first after winning the toss at Boland Park in Paarl, Lions quickly lost five wickets - Quinton Friend took four of them - to put Western Province Boland initially into a strong position. At 72 for 5, HD Ackerman and Enoch Nkwe came together and began the resistance. Ackerman grafted his way to a century against his old team - it came up after four hours in the middle and he displayed talent that had been dormant for a while.

Friend wasn't to be denied, however, and he took his fifth wicket of the innings when he trapped Nkwe in front for 76 to bring to an end a 196-run partnership with Ackerman.

At stumps Ackerman had moved to an undefeated 159 with Lions looking a lot better on 305 for 6.

Warriors got off to a steady start with good contributions coming from the top order, after winning the toss and batting first at Centurion. Mark Bruyns scored 54 before Paul Harris, a left-arm spinner, induced him into a false shot. Harris, building a good reputation in domestic cricket, also bowled out Carl Bradfield and Laden Gamiet. Albie Morkel took the two wickets to fall on the first day - Steven Pope for 48 and Arno Jacobs.

When bad light stopped play with 23 overs still to be bowled, Warriors had moved to 232 for 5, with Mark Boucher still at the crease, unbeaten on 44.
