Jacques Kallis will lead South Africa during their one-day tour in Ireland, which includes an ODI against the hosts and three against India in Stormont, in place of the injured Graeme Smith. The selectors have also introduced five players who weren't part of the World Cup squad as they asses their options.

JP Duminy, a left-handed batsman from the Cape Cobras, is recalled while team-mate Vernon Philander is handed his first international call-up. There is also a recall for wicketkeeper-batsman Morne van Wyk and Test paceman Dale Steyn, who is currently with Warwickshire, while the selectors continue to scour the cupboard for spin talent by trying Thandi Tshabalala's offspin.

"The selectors want to use this tour as an opportunity to introduce some new players into the one-day squad." said convenor of selectors Haroon Lorgat. "Following the World Cup and the timing of this tour it is an ideal time to develop new talent as we prepare for the future."

"The potential and performances of these players were carefully monitored in the past by the selection panel and now is the right time to introduce them into the national squad."

Steyn has been in outstanding form during his county stint at Edgbaston while there is a feeling around South Africa that Tshabalala should have gone to the World Cup.

Shaun Pollock, who is currently playing as a batsman in the Afro-Asia Cup, also wasn't considered for the Ireland trip despite his first ODI century in the opening game in Bangalore.

"Graeme and Shaun are key players and need to be carefully managed before the start of another demanding season," added Lorgat.

Squad Jacques Kallis (capt), Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Hall, Justin Kemp, Charl Langeveldt, Andre Nel, Makhaya Ntini, Vernon Philander, Dale Steyn, Thandi Tshabalala, Morne van Wyk
