Standard Bank Pro20 round-up

Titans collapse against Dolphins

Cricinfo staff

April 9, 2008

Cape Cobras 87 for 2 (Puttick 41*) beat Zimbabwe 84 for 9 (Langeveldt 3-14) by eight wickets
Scorecard

Cape Cobras thumped Zimbabwe in their Pro20 game at Newlands by restricting them to 84 and knocking off the required runs with more than seven overs to spare. Charl Langeveldt picked up three wickets while Vernon Philander, Tyron Henderson and Con de Lange took two each. Cobras are now at the top of the table with 20 points, while Zimbabwe languish at the bottom with four.

Langeveldt had Brendan Taylor caught behind for a duck in the first over and followed it up by the wicket of Hamilton Masakadza in his next over as Zimbabwe lost their openers with only four runs on the board. The wickets continued to tumble as no Zimbabwe batsman showed any inclination to put up a fight. Elton Chigumbura's 18 was the innings' highest score. The last five batsmen contributed 28 to the total.

Cobras' openers, Andrew Puttick and Henry Davids, seemed eager to complete the chase themselves as they raced to 60 in 7.4 overs. However, Ray Price trapped Davids leg before for 20 and in his next over bowled Gibbs for 1 so Henderson joined Puttick at the crease to finish off the game.

Dolphins 131 for 6 (de Bruyn 44*) beat Titans 93 (Abdullah 3-26) by 38 runs
Scorecard

In another one-sided game, this time in Durban, the Titans collapsed against the Dolphins who gained a bonus point from the 38-run win and secured a place in the Pro20 semi-finals.

Pierre de Bruyn's unbeaten 44 took the Dolphins to 131 off their 20 overs. Though hardly a competitive Twenty20 total, it proved to be too high a target for the Titans, who stumbled to 37 for 4 after 7.2 overs. Three of those wickets were taken by left-arm fast-medium bowler Yusuf Abdullah. The Titans were never in the chase and their 16-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Albie Morkel and Pieter Joubert was their highest.
