The Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy will not host the visiting Indian team during their tour to Sri Lanka in July. This will be the first time India will not play at the Asgiriya Stadium while taking part in a three-Test series in Sri Lanka.
"There will be two Tests in Colombo, with one in Galle," Samantha Algama, spokesman for Sri Lanka Cricket, told AFP. The Asgiriya Stadium is India's most successful venue in Sri Lanka. They have played in there thrice, winning once and drawing twice. Their seven-wicket win in Kandy in 2001 was only their second Test win in Sri Lanka in 12 attempts.
The first Test will begin on July 23 in Galle, and the subsequent Tests will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club and the Premadasa Stadium.
The Test series will be followed by a five-match one-day series. The first two one-dayers will be held in Dambulla, after which the teams will head back to the Premadasa Stadium for three back-to-back day-night matches.
