Australia players and officials - select an initial letter: Lloyd Mash Australia
Full name Lloyd Ryan Mash
Lloyd Mash slipped down the Victoria pecking order in 2007-08, making only three Pura Cup appearances for 106 runs at 17.66. The arrival of Chris Rogers for 2008-09 means his first-class opportunities could become even rarer. In 2006-07 he was the preferred opening partner for Nick Jewell for most of the summer but four half-centuries and an average of 26 was a disappointing return, and he lost his spot for the last match. He could not post his maiden century despite promising efforts of 86 and 88, and he ended up on the fringes following an impressive debut summer in 2005-06. He began that season without a Cricket Victoria contract and finished with 505 Pura Cup runs and a safe top-order seat. A strong left-hander, Mash was called up for his first-class debut against the West Indians and started with a steady 44. When a Twenty20 practice game was arranged he planted Dwayne Bravo for four sixes in a 12-ball cameo of 32. Basing his game around a simple technique, Mash appeared in eight Pura Cup games that season, beginning with 83 against Queensland at the Gabba and 94 against South Australia.
Mash, who began his career aged five at Eltham and spent seven years in the under-12s, will be desperate for a productive 2008-09 to ensure he does not disappear from Victoria's radar.
