ICC President impressed by new venues

ICC Media Release

February 17, 2004

ICC President Ehsan Mani was today in Khulna to witness the Group D match between Pakistan and Ireland and offered an enthusiastic endorsement of the new venue.

"This is my first time in Khulna and I am very impressed with the stadium," said Mr Mani.

"I have spoken to the teams and they are very happy with the venue as well as all of the other arrangements here in Khulna.

"I have now seen matches in Dhaka, Chittagong and Khulna and the passion of the people here for this tournament and cricket in general is fantastic.

"I wish everyone well for the coming weeks and I look forward to coming back in time for the final."

The Khulna Divisional Stadium is one of five venues that is hosting international cricket for the first time during this tournament. The others are Bogra District Stadium, Chittagong Divisional Stadium, Fatullah District Stadium and Rajshahi Divisional Stadium.

Mr Mani was accompanied in Khulna by Bangladesh Cricket Board President Mohammad Ali Asghar and Host Tournament Director Roquibul Hassan.

Over 4,000 fans attended the match which Pakistan won by eight wickets.
