SuperSport Series, Round Ten, 4th day

Kleinveldt heroics not enough for Cobras

Cricinfo staff

March 26, 2006

Rory Kleinveldt clobbered his way to 88 and nearly took the Cape Cobras to an unlikely victory before the Lions held on to win by 25 runs. Set 298 to win and resuming the day on 174 for 6, Kleinveldt found support in Paul Adams who managed to partner him for nearly an hour as he chipped away at the total with some lusty blows. Gerhard de Bruin (4 for 47) was too accurate, though, and Kleinveldt was last man out to hand the Lions a slender victory.

After brushing aside the Warriors for just 135 in their first innings, the Eagles swept to a comprehensive 173-run victory by bowling out their opponents for 235 in their second innings. Wicketless in the first innings, Victor Mpitsang decimated the Warriors with 5 for 35 and despite 93 from Johan Botha the Warriors never had a hope of saving the game.

The match between the Dolphins and the Titans was called off after 20 overs after the Dolphins opted for safety over the risk of a run-chase. In what was a must-win game for the Titans, the Dolphins lost both their openers in pursuit of 233, but Hashim Amla - and his namesake, Ahmed - steadied the ship to blunt the match into a draw.
