Dewald Nel signs for Worcestershire

Cricinfo staff

May 22, 2007

Dewald Nel, the Scotland fast bowler, has signed a contract with Worcestershire for the remainder of the season after a successful trial period with the club.

"Dewald has impressed during the ten days with us," Steve Rhodes, Worcestershire's director of cricket said. "We have some injury problems in the seam bowling department so his signing can only help us whilst giving him an opportunity to establish a career in first-class cricket. We will work closely with [Scotland] to make sure he is available for their major matches."

Worcestershire confirmed that he will remain available to play for Scotland for the one-dayers against Pakistan on July 1 and India who they face on August 16.

"I am delighted to get this opportunity to play first-class cricket and look forward to helping the team have a successful season," Nel said. "The arrangement also allows me to continue with my international duties, particularly the Twenty20 competition in South Africa later this summer."

Nel played one match, against South Africa, in Scotland's World Cup campaign in the Caribbean last month.
