Colin Miller has been ruled out of the running to be the new Bangladesh coach. It leaves the board short of options after John Dyson was snapped up by West Indies and Gordon Greenidge said he would only take the role on a short-term basis.

The BCB have said they want someone with greater batting pedigree than Miller, who made his name for Australia as an offspinner and medium-pacer during an 18-Test career.

"Two days ago I was told about this [not getting the job]," Miller told Cricket365. "I saw the chance of coaching the young Bangladesh team. It would have been a great opportunity to share the knowledge of my 17-year first-class career at a time that the team has begun to establish themselves as a reasonable one-day team, but as yet have not been able to do the same at Test match level.

"It would have been my aim to give direction to the team, and using my time with the most successful team in world cricket, to establish the Bangladesh team as one to be reckoned with at Test level."

The BCB added they may take up Greenidge's offer of a short-term role even though he doesn't want the main job. "We were interested in Gordon Greenidge [after Dyson got associated with the West Indies] but he does not seem to be interested on a long term basis and therefore he may train our players for a few weeks."
