19-Aug-2005
The Fiji and Papua New Guinea national Under 19 teams head to Benoni, South Africa later this month for the ICC Africa/EAP U19 World Cup Qualifier.
The tournament, to be held from 20-27 August, involves six African countries (Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda and Zambia) along with the two representatives from East Asia-Pacific. The top two teams from the tournament will qualify for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka during 2006.
Over the past two weeks ICC EAP Regional Development Officer Martin Gleeson has visited both countries to assist with final preparations, including pre-departure team camps.
The focus of the camps was primarily on team planning and game skills with players looking to consolidate on their own preparation and better understand what role they will play in the team during the tournament.
Fiji plays Namibia in their first match while PNG face Kenya. For regular updates visit the EAP website www.icc-eap-cricket.com.
