Arrived at Belfast International Airport at 6.45 Pm by connecting flight from London Gatwik, thanks to Sarah Edgar who made all the arrangements. Soon after the arrival formalities I met my old friend Charlie Boyd, who took me to Hotel Europa Belfast. During our road travel I had a reminiscent of 2005 ICC trophy trip & talked about latest developments, including Ireland's World Cup success. I had just settled down in the hotel room for a while, when I got a call from Chris Broad, our match referee, to discuss the Playing Conditions & arrangements. Our meeting lasted about 40mins & immediately returned to room and just jumped in to bed after a very long hour's flight.

It was raining from early in the morning & the weather forecast was not good for whole week, as a routine duty I visited the Stormont ground for ground inspection with Chris. My umpiring partner Darrell Hair could not come as he had taken a mentor role and was monitoring the umpiring activities at Dublin where other part of tournament being staged. We spent some time in the ground & back to hotel at 2.30pm. Rest of the day spent some time reading books & had a good rest.

It was a match day. Morning started at 8.30 at the Ground along with Chris for 1st ODI between Ireland and Holland. Despite the forecast not being good, we started the game on time. Ireland won the toss and elected to bat first. Dutch opening bowlers were dominating the first spell, but slowly Irish batsmen started building their innings steadily & put up the total of 210 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs. The Dutch team started their chase smoothly and progressed as per the required run rate. At 40th over game was under control by the Dutch batsmen but with the sudden collapse of two wickets in 42nd over the Irish bowlers started to get their grip and made it a last over match where the Dutch batsman needed to score 7 runs from 6 balls with 3 wickets in hand. Irish player Borren bowled the last over brilliantly & pulled off the big victory by 2 runs margin.
Very Interesting match & enjoyed umpiring with Darrell. Overall we had a good performance in the field.

It was a rest day and also a tense day since we were expecting our second child at any time during this week. I utilized the day making calls to India & regularly speaking with my wife to comfort her during crucial moments. During midnight I got the text message that she delivered a baby boy through normal delivery and I could speak to her immediately, very sensational. Thank God, it was a big relief & memorable day in my life.

It was a match day. Morning started at 8.30 at the Ground along with Chris for 2nd ODI between Scotland and Holland. Perfect condition for seam bowlers & the Dutch team was boosted by their star all-rounder Rayne Tendosete in their team. Holland won the toss and aptly put the Scottish team to bat first. The Dutch bowlers had good control. Tendo especially bowled in right channel and took 3 wickets in his short spell. Unfortunately, at the end of 23rd over rain stopped the game and it rained continuously; we had a check at regular interval and decided to call off at 3.30 pm.
Though rain spoiled the day, I had good time both on & off filed with Darrell & Chris.

It was a match day & morning started at 9.15 arriving at the Ground with Chris for 3rd ODI between Scotland and Ireland. Grounds man made a big effort to make the ground ready for play. Ireland won the toss and elected to bat. Irish batsmen started their innings slowly, but progressed steadily. At the completion of 50 over's Ireland ended up 222 for 7. N. O'Brien was the pick of the batman who made a solid 72 off 101 balls. Scotland began their run chase very cautiously and was losing wickets at regular intervals. Scottish Captain, R.Watson, batted well and scored 83 off 130 balls, he got out in slog overs and tail enders could not make it to the target. Ireland made it home comfortably with a 23 run margin at 49.3 overs. Irish player Andrew Botha was the pick of the bowlers; he had a spell of 3 for 27 in 10 overs.
We had a good solid performance in the middle & over all we enjoyed ourselves.
