290-9 (50 overs) (M. L. Udawatte 67, D. P. M. D. Jayawardene 61, K. Weeraratne 40,
K. M. D. N. Kulasekara 37; Zahid Shah 3-49); United Arab Emirates 148 (36.3 overs) (Amjad

Sri Lanka lost Kumar Sangakkara for 0 in the first over to Zahid Shah, who took 3-49 for the
second match running, but then Udawatte and Jayawardene put on 114 in 14 overs. The tail
swelled a rather disappointing batting effort to 290, easily enough to contain the UAE, for whom
the wicketkeeper Amjad Ali (one of six Pakistan-born players in the 15-man squad) made 77 from
79 balls, hitting 12 fours, but his team-mates managed just four boundaries between them. The
last six wickets fell for 15, Mendis taking the last five for two runs in 14 balls.
