Bad light brings an end to stalemate

Bad light brought an early end to Kenya's match with Pakistan A at Simba Union, with the game drifting towards a draw. Once Kenya had taken the decision to extend their innings when play resumed, stalemate was the only outcome. They eventually declared at 371 for 9, and by the close Pakistan A had reached 129 for 2 in their second innings.

Kenya were hampered by the absence of Collins Obuya, who underwent an appendix operation yesterday after complaining of stomach pains. He is not expected to be fit in time for the Champions Trophy in September. "I had an appendix operation myself and didn't play for seven weeks," said Andy Moles, Kenya's coach. "He has a very short time to heal and get fit for competitive cricket."

Kenya scored at nearly four an over through their innings, but once Steve Tikolo was dismissed for 109, adding five to his overnight score, the rest of the batting simply crashed. Martin Suji remained not out on 36, and the team was helped by the 43 extras conceded by the Pakistan bowlers.

Pakistan then ran up 129 in 33 overs, losing two wickets in the process, before the game was called off at 4.20pm. The sides move to the Sir Ali ground for a four-day match which starts on Thursday.

Kenya are likely to bring in some new faces, with Joseph Angara, Lameck Onyango, Jimmy Kamande, Maurice Ouma, Ragheb Aga and Francis Otieno all set to play.
