At Mirpur, October 11, 2008. New Zealand won by 75 runs. Toss: Bangladesh.
Oram saved New Zealand's blushes and kept them in the series. They were stuttering at 86 for five when he arrived; left-arm pacer Syed Rasel had prised out the top three, conceding only 23 in a single ten-over spell. Oram stepped up a gear during the batsmen's powerplay, hitting 22 off the 14 balls he faced, but Bangladesh were careless in the field. Abdur Razzak collided with a team-mate while attempting a catch off Oram, then 26, and two overs later, with the score on 168 for nine, no one appealed when Mashrafe bin Mortaza threw at the stumps; replays indicated his direct hit had run Patel out. Razzak paid heavily when Oram hit him for 25 in the final over. Still, a target of 213 was very much chaseable. But Mills struck with his second delivery, and Bangladesh fell behind when a half-century partnership between Junaid Siddique and Mohammad Ashraful consumed 18 overs, five of them bowled by Oram for only 11 runs.
Man of the Match: J. D. P. Oram.
