Bangladesh v Sri Lanka, 2005-06

At Bogra, February 22, 2006. Bangladesh won by four wickets. Toss: Bangladesh.
Bangladesh levelled the series by beating Sri Lanka for the first time in one-day internationals, at the 16th attempt. Put in under overcast skies, Sri Lanka managed just 19 off their first 11 overs, and only reached 212 thanks to an uncharacteristically restrained 96 from Jayasuriya, who batted for more than three hours. The early damage was done by the left-armer Syed Rasel, then the slower bowlers made scoring difficult. Aftab Ahmed conceded only 24 in six overs of mediumpace, but bettered that with the bat, speeding to 32 off 21 balls - including a six over long-on off Perera - to take Bangladesh over the line after a mid-innings wobble: Habibul Bashar and Mohammad Ashraful put on 63 then fell in the space of four balls. The match was in the balance, with 58 still needed from 64 balls, but Aftab and Alok Kapali held their nerve. Aftab's pulled six over midwicket off Hasantha Fernando recalled Cardiff, where a similar shot made sure of Bangladesh's famous victory over Australia.
Man of the Match: Aftab Ahmed.
