HOBART, Jan 18 AAP - Victorian cricket captain Darren Berry was today fined $1,000 for publicly criticising the umpiring in the Pura Cup match against Tasmania at Bellerive Oval.
Australian Cricket Board Code of Behaviour commissioner Ray Brown found Berry guilty and imposed the fine at a hearing after the match ended this afternoon.
Cricket Victoria chief executive Ken Jacobs laid the charge, which came under ACB code provisions relating to unbecoming conduct.
Berry's offence was to tell journalists after the second day's play on Thursday that the umpiring by Ian Lock of Western Australia and Ken McGinniss of Tasmania had been disappointing.
He said six or seven of their decision were wrong -- a view most observers shared.
An ACB spokesman said the code provisions were to ensure disparaging remarks were not made against umpires or other officials.
