The selectors, dubious about Eddo's fitness at the start of the Sri Lankan series, left him out of the later matches and played him in the Zimbabwe Board XI, which inspired him to a devastating all-round performance against Griqualand West to earn a place on the tour to Australia; in this match he recorded both the highest score and best bowling figures of his first-class career. A further injury there forced him to come home early, and he did not recover sufficiently to play in the home series against Pakistan; he did not complete the Logan Cup match that was in effect a trial for a Test place.
