Glamorgan`s opening Championship match of the season against Derbyshire at Derby ended in a draw. Set a target of 314 in 67 overs, the Welsh county finished on 253-7 with Adrian Dale anchoring the innings with a patient 92.
At tea, Glamorgan were on 111-2, but there were a few flutters in Welsh hearts as they lost wickets at regular intervals during the next hour, and as play entered the final half hour, Derbyshire looked as if they might win the game. But Derbyshire were thwarted by some stubborn resistance from Alex Wharf and an injured Michael Kasprowicz who blocked out the final twelve overs.
Kasprowicz, who suffered a thigh strain yesterday, had earlier been unable to field when Derbyshire batted before lunch after the start had been delayed until 12 o`clock by heavy overnight rain. The Australian is likely to miss Glamorgan`s next Championship match against Hampshire at Cardiff starting on Wednesday.
The other news on the injury front is that Darren Thomas, who damaged a cartilege in his left knee, will see a specialist tomorrow and could be out of action until mid-May.
