The resignations of National Cricket Academy (NCA) director Hanumant Singh
and coach Vasu Paranjpe have nothing to do with former India skipper and
NCA committee member Sunil Gavaskar's resignation after a tiff with the NCA
chairman Raj Singh Dungarpur.
Dungarpur said in Mumbai on Sunday that the two issues had no
connection whatsoever as it is made out to be and both Hanumant and
Paranjpe had tendered their resignations two months ago. The resignations
were accepted at the NCA meeting on Friday.
"We tried to persuade Hanumant Singh to carry on as director for some more
time but in vain," he added.
"Not even a `mali' (groundsman) has resigned after Gavaskar quit. In fact
Hanumant wanted to be relieved as he could not leave his family alone for a
long period of time while Paranjpe could not leave his wife alone in Mumbai
after his son Jatin married and shifted to his new house in the suburbs,"
Dungarpur said.
Gavaskar and Dungarpur had a show down after Gavaskar, in his column, had
said that NCA boys should not have got a three-day game against the
Zimbabweans in their tour opener at Indore.
Dungarpur, who objected to this, called for the batting legend's
resignation in an interview to the same tabloid on the following day. This
was given by Gavaskar on Friday.
Indian Cricket Board executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar told PTI in Mumbai
on Sunday that reports in a section of the press that another NCA and
junior team coach Roger Binny too had quit was not true.
Board secretary Jaywant Lele told PTI from Baroda over phone "as far as I
know, Roger Binny has not resigned as coach as his name did not come up at
the meeting on Saturday while we did discuss the matter concerning Hanumant
Singh and Vasu Paranjpe."
