The ICC East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Region today announced the regional winners of the ICC Development Program Annual Awards for 2006 with Japan successful in three of the eight categories.
The Japan Cricket Association took out the top award, winning Best Overall Cricket Development Program, as well as the Best Junior Cricket Initiative and the Best Cricket Promotional & Marketing Program with their outstanding website: https://www.cricket.or.jp/eng/
Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Samoa both finished with two awards. PNG's Photo of the Year "Tears of Joy" shows the emotion involved when playing for your country (visit www.icc-eap-cricket.com to view it).
Fiji was awarded the Best Spirit of Cricket Initiative in partnership with UNAIDS for their fantastic organisation of the "Run out Aids" Day that was held for school children in Suva, Fiji.
Having been involved in Samoan Cricket since 1964, including being the current President, Seb Kohlhase has been recognised with the Lifetime Service Award. The development and spirit of Samoan Cricket is largely attributable to Seb's passion and commitment to the game he loves. A great legacy of Seb's contribution is the development of grounds at Samoa Gardens Ovals.
The EAP award winners will now join winning entries from Asia, Americas, Europe and Africa at the global awards.
The judges for the global awards are Percy Sonn (ICC President), Ehsan Mani (Past ICC President), Malcolm Gray (Past ICC President), and Keith Bradshaw (MCC Chief Executive and Secretary).
The global awards will be announced on 15 March 2007.
The ICC Development Program Awards were established to recognise exceptional performance and service to the game in Associate and Affiliate Member countries. They form part of the ICC's commitment to promoting excellence in cricket development.
