ICC Knock-Out 2000 - Kenya

The Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council, Mr David Richards, today announced the match schedule for the ICC Knock-Out 2000 tournament, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya between 3rd and 16th October 2000

The Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council, Mr David Richards, today announced the match schedule for the ICC Knock-Out 2000 tournament, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya between 3rd and 16th October 2000.
As a means of producing the schedule, a seeding system was introduced whereby a country is positioned according to its performance in the last World Cup that was held in the United Kingdom in 1999.
In addition, a number of local considerations were taken into account such as Kenya, as host nation, should appear in the opening match.
Based on the success of the first ICC Knock-Out, the Wills International Cup of 1998, this second tournament will feature all of the Full Member countries of ICC as well as the hosts Kenya who enjoying One - Day International status. It is anticipated that this tournament could provide a similar catalyst for the growth of the game in Kenya as the 1998 event did for cricket in Bangladesh, two years after which they were admitted as a Test playing nation
The purpose of the event is to raise money to fund the operations of the ICC with special reference to its extensive Development Program. This has been designed to introduce cricket, on a global scale, beyond its present boundaries and to raise its profile in countries where the game is already established.
