The South African squad's high scoring in their three World Cup matches to
date has given the LG Cricket Scholarship Trust a massive boost.
LG Electronics has pledged R100 for every run scored and R1000 for every
wicket taken by a South African player during the World Cup. So far, South
Africa's three matches have seen them score 688 runs and take 14 wickets.
This adds up to a total of R82 800.
The funds will be deposited into a trust account administered by the UCB,
from which the tuition fees of talented school going cricketers will be
paid.
John Shaw, General Manager for Marketing at LG Electronics SA said: "LG
Electronics are proud to have established the LG Cricket Scholarship Trust.
As the global partner to the ICC, LG Electronics initiated the fund to help
educate talented young sportsmen in South Africa."
He added, "LG is delighted that the South African National team has scored a
large number of runs already, and we are hoping for continued high scoring
in the remaining matches to further bolster the fund."
South Africa has three preliminary round matches remaining against
Bangladesh, Canada and Sri Lanka.
UCBSA Director of Amateur Cricket Max Jordaan said:"The LG Electronics
Scholarship Trust ensures that a larger segment of our young, talented
cricketers are given quality opportunities to become the best they can be.
The holistic development of our cricketers has always been the cornerstone
of our programme."
