Maharoof reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Farveez Maharoof from Sri Lanka has been severely reprimanded for breaching the ICC's Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials during the 3rd ODI between West Indies and Sri Lanka held at Rangiri Stadium Dambulla yesterday (2nd August).

ICC Match Referee Mike Procter found Maharoof guilty for breaching Clause 1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct - Excessive appealing in the course of play in the above match, after a hearing at the Rangiri Stadium in Dambulla yesterday.
The reports were made by the match officials Simon Taufel, Asoka De Silva and Peter Manuel. Also in attendance at the hearing was Captain of Sri Lanka, Marvan Atapattu and the Sri Lankan Team Manager, Mr Michael Tissera.
Maharoof pleaded guilty to the charge of celebrating the dismissal before the umpire had made his decision and of not turning around and appealing to the umpire - also known as excessive appealing under Clause 1.5. Maharoof received a severe reprimand for the incident which took place in the 7th over in the Sri Lankan bowling innings.
A Level 1 breach of the Code carries a penalty of a severe reprimand to a fine of 50 per cent of the player's match fee.
