Craig McMillan hit a cracking century to power Major Association XI to 321 in a tour game against the visiting Sri Lankans on the first day in Christchurch.
Major Associations chose to bat after winning the toss, but lost two early wickets and were struggling at 46 for 2 when McMillan, the captain, walked in. With Mathew Sinclair, McMillan added 65 for the third wicket to put the innings back on track, and then put together 74 for the fifth with Aaron Redmond. McMillan, who was dropped from the New Zealand side for the third Test against Australia, hit 11 fours and five sixes in his 121 before being finally dismissed by Lasith Malinga. Malinga was the Sri Lankans' best bowler, finishing with 3 for 57, while Ruchira Perera and Farveez Maharoof took two wickets apiece.
The three-day match is the only practice game for the Sri Lankans before the two-Test series. The first of those matches will be played at Napier, from April 4.
