Sana Javed, the middle-order batsman, struck an unbeaten sizzling 117 and Khurshid Jabeen, the legspinner, snapped up four wickets to set up Pakistan's massive 230-run win over the visiting Hong Kong women team, in the Asian qualifying round for the World Cup on Sunday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Urooj Fatima, Pakistan's captain, won the toss on a placid wicket and elected to bat and her decision proved right as Pakistan amassed 292 for four before dismissing the opponents for a paltry 62 in 32 overs, thanks to an impressive show by a variety of bowlers.
Sana added a 62-run partnership for the second wicket with Sajida Shah (53) before Sajida fell after hitting eight boundaries. Sana carried on, slamming 21 boundaries in an enterprising knock off 102 balls, and was involved in a valuable 96-run partnership with Sana Mir (26). That Hong Kong gave away as many as 45 wides says a lot about their undisciplined bowling performance.
In their reply Hong Kong failed to show application and lost one wicket after another, falling prey to the skilful bowling of the home bowlers. Khurshid took four wickets for just 15 runs in eight overs and the spinners' duo of Sajida Shah and Urooj Mumtaz claimed two wickets each. While Sajida gave away only 10 runs in 10 overs, Urooj just bowled one over and got two wickets without conceding any run.
Neisha Pratt, the captain, was the highest contributor from Hong Kong (16) followed by Renee Montgomery (15) as the rest of their batting proved a house of cards as eight of the players failed to reach double figures and some of them even failed to open their account.
The winners of the three-match series go through to the Women's World Cup Qualifying tournament in Ireland in 2007
