Sports Minister Johnston Fernando confirmed today that he has reappointed
the present selection committee, chaired by former Sri Lanka captain Michael
Tissera, for a further another 12 months.
The four-man committee's tenure had expired on the 30 April but Fernando
retained the same selectors on the recommendation of the interim committee
that is currently managing the affairs of the Board of Control for Cricket
in Sri Lanka.
"The Interim Committee said they were happy with the group of selectors and
asked me to retain them. I only had to approve their request," said
Fernando.
Tissera, who led Sri Lanka in the inaugural World Cup in 1975, will work
alongside Don Anurasiri, Roger Wijesuriya and Mahesh Goonatillake, all
former Test cricketers.
The committee was appointed only four months ago after a selection dispute
with the team management and players in the second Test against Zimbabwe in
Kandy.
