Tournament organisers have announced that a magnificent new trophy will be unveiled this afternoon for the 2001 Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong Cricket Sixes, to be held this weekend (November 10-11) at the Kowloon Cricket Club.
The trophy, designed by Papu Butani of Hong Kong's Butani Jewellery, is an impressive handmade piece featuring incredible detail and a range of cricketing images. Made of pure silver dipped in 24-carat 999 gold, it is studded with an amazing array of rubies and diamonds.
Mike Walsh, Chairman of the Hong Kong Cricket Association (HKCA), said: "It is fitting that, with the Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong Cricket Sixes being contested for the Butani Cup, we should have such a magnificent trophy from Papu. His commitment and vision for this tournament and its prize are indeed appropriate for the world's pre-eminent Sixes tournament."
Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and the UAE will join Hong Kong to contest the Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong Cricket Sixes.
The teams have been drawn into two pools for the tournament with the top two sides in each pool entering the Cup semi-finals and the others two sides contesting the Plate semi-finals.
Tickets for the Cathay Pacific/Standard Chartered Hong Kong Cricket Sixes are on sale from Hong Kong Cricket Club, the Kowloon Cricket Club and Dot Cod Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar in Central. Passes for the two days of the tournament are priced at HK$450 for adults with children's tickets (15 years and under) costing $HK250.
