Phil Tufnell has been named as Middlesex player of the season. The left armer won the award for his 65 wickets in the season, at a cost of just 23 a piece.
Controversially left out of the touring teams for the winter, the award demonstrates that there is plenty of life left in the 34 year old spinner. Although he has not represented England since the 4th Test against South Africa, in Cape Town at the beginning of January, Tufnell has not given up hope of forcing his way back into the team. He has been included among the official reserves for the tour, during which spin is expected to play a major part, and will be hoping to add to his 120 Test wicket haul.
